60th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome:

On 25 March 2017, Symposium on Difficulties and Challenges of European Integrationand 2017 Annual Meeting of Chinese Association for European Studies was held in Anhui University to mark the 60th anniversary of the signature of the Treaty of Rome.

Director of Chinese Association for European Studies, Member of ChineseAcademy of Social Sciences of Ministry of Education Zhou Hong, deputy secretary of Anhui University, executive vice president Wang Qunjing and deputy director of Institute of European Studies of ChineseAcademy of Social Sciences etc. attended the opening ceremony and delivered speech. Vice president Cheng Yanlei hosted the opening ceremony.

Representative of European Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zhang Yanning and Representative of European Department of European Affairs of Ministry of Commerce Wang Yupeng gave speech respectively. Mr. Zhang introduced the current situationofChina–European Union relations from the perspective of diplomacy, analyzed the influence of Brexit to China, and illustrated  how China will develop relation with European Union and Britain after Brexit. Mr. Wang thought, we should pay more attention to EU strategically, actively expand cooperative fields, control disparities properly, and promote sound and stable development of bilateral economic and trade relations.

Following the opening ceremony, representatives of experts delivered speeches.

Lifetime consultant of Chinese Association for European Studies Wu Yikang made a speech with the title of On European Integration, mainly talked about three goals about its resolution to peace and security and the present France-Germany Core.

Ding Chun from Fudan University gave a talk entitled Economy, Current Social Situationand Prospect of EU, mainly analyzed empirically the developmentconvergence for these EU members from the perspective of political economy approaches of major Europe.

Zheng Chunrong from Tongji University spoke on Causes and Manifestations about Ideological Trend of EU against Globalization, analyzed inner inequity in EU and its causes in the background of reverse globalization.

     Zhang Shujing from China University of Political Science and Law made a speech titled Challenge and Tactics ofEuropean Integration---An Analysis of Brexit, mainly talked about rigid situation and challenges of EU and reform tendency of European integration strategy in EU.

     Researcher Tian Dewen from ChineseAcademy of Social Sciences made a speech titled Cause and Infection about Rising of European Populism, talked about influence of populism to EU situation and its causes from the cultural angle.

Professor Wang Yiwei from the school of International Studies of Renming University gave a speech titled Problems and Prospect: China-Europe Collaboration of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, discussed China-Europe relation from perspective of B&R, he underlined that we can strengthen our cooperation with Europe through Maritime Silk Road.

Researcher Cui Hongjian from China Institute of International Studiesgave a speech titled Prospect of European Integration and Tendency of China-Europe Relation, mainly explored the issue of European Integrationhistorically, he emphasized the importance of the Treaty of Rome, and stated that China can cooperate with Europe in terms of politic and economicsustainability.

Xi Qiming, a Researcher of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, director of Shanghai Institute of European Studies made a speech titled Influence of Brexit to China-EU Relation, mainly expressed the steady state of China-EU relation after Brexit, and expounded his view that Brexit has exerted a giant effect on China-EU relation.

Professor Deng Xiang from Sichuan University made a speech titled Path Analysis Interior Regions Incorporate into B&R---an example of Sichuang-Europe Strategy, discussed China-Europe relation from the perspective inland regions, advocated that we should enhance opening to the outside world.

Reseacher Yang Haifeng from Shanghai Institute for European Studies delivered a speech titled Impact Mechanism Analysis of European Think Bank to EU in the South China Sea policy--- An Case of European Union Institute for Security Studies, mainly analyzed the impact and role of European official think tank in the South China Sea dispute.

The conference was hosted by Chinese Association for European Studies, was undertaken by Research Center for European Studies of Nanjing Universityand Research Center for European Studies of Anhui University. During the Session, many scholars and experts from universities and research institutes (Anhui University, ChineseAcademy of Social Sciences, Renming University, China University of Political Science and Law, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Sichuan University, Shandong University, China Institute of International Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Anhui Academy of Social Sciences etc.) also held panel discussions.The themes involved the following: Brexit and Future of European Integration, China-EU economic and trade cooperation and its diplomatic relations, France-Germany Core and European Integration, Refugee Crisis in the European Union and Renaissance of Populism, Bilateral and Multilateral Diplomacy of European Union, Social Development of European Union and so on.
